Airbnb Launches Innovative Flexible Working Policy

In April 2020, 46% of people moved to home working due to the coronavirus pandemic, according to the Office of National Statistics. This has remained the case for many, as many companies moved to work from home or flexible working models.

Airbnb is one of these companies. But they are the trailblazers when it comes to worldwide flexible working. In response to the emerging, more flexible ways to live and work, Airbnb offers its employees the opportunity to work from anywhere in the world.

Why Have Airbnb Gone Flexible?

The accommodation booking site noted a trend in those travelling while working a full-time job remotely. As a resource that many travellers use to book accommodation, the platform had a head start in noticing the increase in travelling workers. They noted that one in five nights booked were for stays of longer than a month. In addition, almost 50% of their nights booked from July to December 2021 were for a week or more. Last year, 175,000 guests booked stays for three months or longer.

The co-founder and CEO of Airbnb, Brian Chesky, sent an email to his employees last week. The email included an acknowledgement of the need to revolutionise the way we work: “Two decades ago, Silicon Valley startups popularised the idea of open floor plans and on-site perks, which were soon adopted by companies all around the world. Similarly, today’s startups have embraced remote work and flexibility, and I think this will become the predominant way that we all work ten years from now. This is where the world is going.”

Why Should Employers Cater To Digital Nomads?

The term ‘Digital Nomad’ is a phrase that has been popularised as a result of the pandemic. A Digital Nomad is someone who works remotely and freely travels from destination to destination without a fixed working location or place of residence.

Flexible working is a sought after perk that job seekers are increasingly requiring. 57% of those looking for work say they are seeking a job that is entirely remote. The same study found that 62% of U.S. employers are moving to a hybrid or fully remote model of working. At the same time, almost half of employers believe that flexible working arrangements are the key to retaining talent.

Working remotely also creates a better work-life balance and improves employee well-being, which is vital to retaining talent. Remote working means employees don’t have to partake in the morning commute, they can wear comfy clothes and spend more time with their family.

At Each Person, we offer a hybrid working model. This ensure that our employees have the flexibility to work how best suits them. Our team also has the opportunity to finish early on Friday so they can make the most of their weekend.

How Do You Keep Your Team Working Together If They Are Miles Apart?

Rewards and recognition are a great way to keep your team together and ensure that your employees can access perks at work anywhere. Employers might be concerned that losing the office will lose the community-feel and the opportunity to appreciate employees hard work. However, creating a positive team atmosphere is simple by using an affective employee recognition scheme.

Here at Each Person, we are passionate about helping you create a positive workplace. Our Ecards allow your employees to celebrate each other’s personal and professional successes. Through our Epoints system, your employees can access rewards that can be redeemed across a global catalogue of companies such as Amazon. This allows international employees to feel part of the team wherever they are.
