Alternative Work Social Ideas to the Pub

What better way to provide rewards and recognition to your office than a work social. Wanting to organise an activity but not sure what to do that is inclusive for everyone? The Pub can be a popular choice - work or dinner drinks are an easy option. However, some people might not want to drink. Did you know that 43% of young workers thought that not drinking alcohol was a barrier to fitting in socially at work? Here are some all-inclusive alternative work social ideas that do not involve alcohol as the main event!

Escape Rooms

Fun for everyone. An escape room puts your mind to the test to look for clues and solve the puzzles to free yourselves and your colleagues. Not to mention, it is a great team-building exercise. A perfect idea for a work social.

Thrilling Activity

Want to get your adrenaline pumping? Why not try a thrilling activity? You could try an assault course, a watersport activity, a supercar experience, a theme park or a tree-top outdoor adventure.

If you and your fellow colleagues are a team of daredevils, why not do a skydive or bungee jump? Even better, why not raise money for a charitable cause in the process! I’m sure an employer can’t say no to that!

Work Sports Day

Another excellent team-building experience for an alternative work social, and fun for the whole office. Embrace your inner youth with a Sports Day event! Split your office in two, three, five or however many teams! Go to a local park where a variety of games can be played. For example, 5 a-side football, wheelbarrow race, egg and spoon race, three-legged race or a relay! The list goes on.

You could even encourage some healthy competition amongst the office. The winning team could get half a day’s holiday or free lunch at work! Such collaborative events are the perfect way to increase employee engagement within your organisation. Furthermore, encompassing physical activities contribute to your workforce’s wellbeing, both physically and mentally. If you would like to find out more about wellbeing, check out our Wellbeing Hub.

Board games

Encourage some mental stimulation with a variety of board games. Various different games could be set up, such as Monopoly, Chess, Scrabble or Backgammon! Teach everyone the rules and let winners play winners in an office tournament board game! When you’re not playing, enjoy time chatting to fellow colleagues with some light refreshments. This is the perfect way to challenge and stimulate your employees’ minds away from work duties!

Bake off

Inspired by ‘The Great British Bake-off’, each team member can whip up something tasty and bring it in for everyone to enjoy! Have a table where everyone can taste each dish and get others to judge to determine the winner!

Once the winner has been chosen, you’re left with a buffet to enjoy and chat with fellow colleagues. You could do this in the office or in the park, the choice is yours!

Film-a-Thon

An ideal winter social event! Film-a-thons are a great way to encourage everyone to relax. Hire a projector screen, get some nice snacks, clear the room and enjoy the movie!

It is important for everyone to take some time out to relax from their usual day-to-day duties. Rewarding the office with a team-building activity, whether that be physical, mental or designed to encourage relaxation, can be fun for the whole office. It provides opportunities to engage and interact with each other in a less formal setting. Offering these additional perks at work are just one way your organisation can say Thank You For Your Hard Work.
