Earth Day: The What and The How
Earth Day is on the 22nd of April and comes around every year, but do people even know about it? It’s a time to reflect on your impact on the earth and demonstrate your support for protecting the environment.
Incredibly the Earth is 5 billion years old! But that doesn’t stop us from disrespecting our elders. Unfortunately, the planet is headed for a 1.5°C increase in temperature, causing catastrophic damage to already fragile ecosystems, animal wellbeing and even humanity.
Take a look at our Earth Day poster to get other shocking climate facts!
It’s evident that we all need to make some changes. Starting small is a great place to begin to make it manageable and accessible.
We’ve all heard it. We need to recycle. Did you know that 60% of the UK’s waste sent to landfills could actually be recycled! Try to check with your council about what you can and can't recycle to help you get it right.
A vegetarian diet produces 2.5 times fewer carbon emissions than a meat-based diet. Additionally, you could save up to 6 months of emissions from a small family car. Not everyone can go vegan, but making small changes like Meatless Mondays are a great way to help the environment.
We cut down around 1.5 billion trees every year, which has a detrimental effect on the planet. However, here at Each Person, we’re not just an employee reward scheme. We enable you to plant trees through our partnership with Carbon Footprint! We even help keep our eco-promise by donating 5% of our profits to the cause.
Encourage your people to modify their behaviours: from modest changes such as reusable coffee cups in the workplace to more significant ones like going plastic-free for a month. It will not be an easy fix, but change from many will make a huge difference.
Secondly, listen to what the people in your team are saying. They may suggest innovative ideas your company can implement. Everyone is affected by this issue. Therefore, listening to what individuals say is incredibly important for your staff’s wellbeing.
Lastly, remain adaptable to your surroundings. The world is constantly changing, so stay open to change as much as possible. Modifying existing behaviour is the key to change. For example, introduce rewards and recognition that simultaneously tackle the climate crisis. Each Person is the only employee reward scheme entirely aligned to fighting climate change by planting trees. With more companies understanding the need for action, now is the best time to make a difference.
In summary, Earth Day is astonishingly essential to the planet's wellbeing. The climate emergency is something that we can all help deplete with little steps.
