How Elon Musk’s $44 Billion Twitter Deal Could Have Helped The Planet
The Tesla billionaire giant, Elon Musk, has come under fire again as Twitter accept his $44 billion (£35.05 billion) deal to buy. Musk has often been under scrutiny and isn't always a fan favourite. From his controversial Twitter posts to his SpaceX tourism. But now, rumours that the world's richest man may be making the platform private has caused a contentious issue.
Although some are excited about the new changes, such as Joe Rogan, many Twitter workers believe that the self-confessed ‘free speech absolutist’ Elon Musk’s take over will breed hate speech and other cultural issues. But what does this all mean for the planet?
After developing SpaceX tourism, Elon Musk has already spread anger across the climate change community. As he parts with his $44 billion deal, only 16.3% of his net worth, many argue how else he could use his wealth to help.
Climate change is arguably one of the most pressing issues our planet faces. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change says that without action, the planet will endure a 1.5°C increase in temperature. A change that will cause catastrophic damage to already fragile ecosystems, animal wellbeing and even humanity. Something the R&B icon Rihanna knows all too well. So, she donated $15 million to 18 different climate justice groups, including The Caribbean Climate Justice Project.
There are many different eco-projects that everyday people and billionaire giants have access to. For example, Carbon Footprint helps the planet with several projects such as tree planting and regeneration.
Every day deforestation depletes the world's tree population by 42 million. If Elon Musk used his $44 billion differently, he could plant 35 billion trees. A number that would nurture a large forest and replace the trees lost over two years.
Did you know here at Each Person, we enable companies and their people to plant trees for just £1. We partnered with Carbon Footprint to help!
According to Renewable First, wind turbines cost up to £3.13 million. If we look at Elon Musk’s $44 billion (£35.05 billion), he could build around 11,100 wind turbines. A number equal to the amount of on and offshore turbines currently across the UK.
In summary, billionaires could spend their wealth to help save our planet and have significant impacts. However, we all need to do our bit! Climate change is of enormous consequence to the entire world, and many are already facing the challenges it brings. Without action, the planet will suffer irreversible damage.
